What is Share of Voice?

Share of Voice (SOV) was originally a PR and advertising metric used to determine how much ad space a brand owned compared to its market. In the digital age, SOV measures brand awareness and conversation volume across social media, forums (like Reddit), and the open web.

How to calculate SOV?

The formula is simple: (Your Brand Mentions / Total Market Mentions) * 100 = SOV %

To get the raw mention data, you typically use a social listening tool that tracks your brand name and your competitors' brand names across platforms like Reddit, Twitter, and LinkedIn over a specific time period (e.g., 30 days).

Why does SOV matter for B2B SaaS?

A high SOV correlates strongly with market leadership. More importantly, analyzing your competitors' SOV uncovers vulnerabilities. If a competitor has 80% of the conversation but 40% of those mentions are complaints about pricing or bugs, that represents a massive capture opportunity.

This is exactly why we built Leedlime - to help founders not just measure the conversation, but inject themselves into it and convert competitor complaints into fresh MRR.
